Default New rear view/third brake light mod

Just wanted to post a pic of some recent back-end mods.

-clear tail lights and third brake light
    -some H2/H3 recovery team decals
-a 27lb/2" pin anchor shackle w/ custom receiver mount, power coated shiny silver/chrome

    That is all.

Very cool, so how did you do the third brake light?

    Thanks!

Got a couple 88-98 C/K 1500/2500 CLEAR TURN SIGNAL/PARK LIGHTS, one for practice, the other for the final, and traced the outline of the original lens which I popped out of a third brake light assembly I sourced. (hind-site, I'm lucky it came out in one piece)

The pic of the brake light housing in my hand is extra housing with practice cut lens. The other pic is the sourced lens after it was carefully pried/popped out of it's housing. My C350's brake light housing/lens was much more difficult to separate. I destroyed the lens getting it out, the housing was left intact.

One pic is the finished product, the other is the C1500's lens.

A couple machine nuts went over the bolt holes, inside the housing under the lens, which anchor the third brake light to the cap, so the newly cut clear lens wouldn't sink into the housing when tightened.

Then I anchored the new lens in the housing with a couple temporary nuts-n-bolts and added the clear silicone adhesive/sealant around the outside edge to keep in place.

The chromed red bulb is a 7443 and is acutally too big, but I cut the rubber connector's sides and *barely* slid it into place. The rubber connector no longer twist-anchors into place, it's tightly held in place by the swollen size of the connector.

Extra chromed tape went in the brake light housing, since those housings tend to warp from the bulb heat.

    Shopping list...
    -extra third brake light assembly
-2 C1500 clear turn signal lenses
    -7443 chromed red bulb
    -clear silicone adhesive/sealant
    -misc nuts-n-bolts
    -chromed/reflective tape

    The end.

I don't have to think about what I want to do to my DD, I just wait for John's mods to come out and add them to the list. VERY nice. I love it. I picked out crystal clears for the front, now to find the tail lights :(

Thanks "guys", I appreciate your thoughts.

Audra, I sourced my clear tails from the FSB classifieds. I hit 'em hard, posted a want ad, and totally lurked that site till someone posted theirs for sale.

The rear clears aren't available new retail any more. :(

Love the shackle, looks like you just drove off of the farm. Is that low enough to hook any thing laying on the road? Looks like it would stop you on a flight deck.

If I hooked something on the road, I'm sure it would stop me like a plane on a flight deck.

I'll get some pics with the new bulbs.

Glad you like the plate too, it's fun to have. Thanks!

It looks good but are those lenses legal in Florida or do you just put them on for shows.

Here in Ohio I'd be lucky to make it across town without getting a ticket.

Really? I thought the lenses were okay as long as the bulb is red when lit.

Seems silly doesn't it? I don't know why they care so long as they light up in red. Our town has been cracking down hard on the kids cursing. I guess our cops have nothing better to do or maybe it's easier to right tickets to kids doing laps than going after real criminals.

I *believe* you only have to have a certain amount of red reflective surface on the back end.

I'm working on adding some 3M red reflective tape, probably to the corner ends of the bumper. Some place discrete, kinda like it could have been on there from the factory. I tried some on the black trim that's under the tailgate but above/behind the bumper..... I didn't like the look of that.

Sooooooooo hopefully I won't get pulled before I get the tape in place.

The Lexus RX330, from the factory, has completely clear lenses which only appear red when the lights are switched on. But Lexus did add two idiot lenses which don't light but I *believe* get them around the lens law.

I love the shackle!!!! Your truck is sooo clean, the all clear lenses look good on the white. Nice work.

Ive thought about making one of these 3rd brake lights fit, the mounting apears to be the same, the wiring plug may be a little different. Any ideas on making the two tailights led?
