    Default Bell Housing adapter plate?

My '96 F350 7.3 has an issue. I upgraded my original starter to the newer gear reduction type. I had the bolts back out on me (only 2 of the 3 holes match up) a year ago and when I replaced them I used locktite. The other day I thought the bolts loosened but after further inspection it was worse than expected. The adapter that the starter bolts to snapped in half. I called the Ford dealer and they called it the - Flywheel housing to transmission adapter. I found one on ebay (http://www.ebay.com/itm/97-FORD-F350...-/251226766842 )that they called a Bell housing adapter. A few questions...

    1. Is this the piece I need?

    2. What is involved in changing? Pulling trans etc....

    3. will a '97 work on a '96?

    4. Will used be ok or should I go new?

No response? I was sure someone would let me know something. I called the shop and they said that the Ford dealer gave them a price then said that they couldn't get it from the warehouse and no other dealers had one.

Wow that sucks! I don't know anything about it but that part sure looks like it bolts between the Engine and tranny. If so you can likely get away with removing the drivshafts, unbolt the torque converter from the flywheel, unbolt the tranny from the engine then drop the cross member enough to slide the tranny and transfer case back enough to remove the part.

The tranny lines and shifter may also need to be unbolted.

Not an easy job but doable.

Hopefully someone with some real experience will chime in.

I think bob is right. Steve83 seems to know everything, so you could PM him here or on FSB. I guess its a good thing you still have the C150.

the adapter from any 7.3L PSD will work for you. you'll need to remove the transmission but not the flex plate reasonably easy job with the proper tools. You should be able to do it in one day or I managed to do my flex plate in 1 day.

Jason, I forgot to mention there are a few guys on Craigslist down here that are parting out F250s, F350s, and Excursions. There is also a guy who buys and parts out 7.3s. If you can find one down here and they wont ship it I would get it and ship it to you. Or my inlaws from Rochester are coming down in April if you aren't in a big hurry. Just let me know.

    Here is one.

Thanks everyone. The truck is fixed. The shop that it I sent it to (wasn't working on it in the side yard in the snow) had to replace the flex plate too.
