Default Air system & horn install

    Anybody done an install yet?

I'm having difficulty finding a place to put a 2ft long, 6in. wide horn as far forward, towards the offending, pulling out infront of me, snowbird driver, as possible.

NO derogatory remarks about somewhere else to put it.............

Bolt it to the underside of the hood.

Not sure where to put ours yet, not sure which style will go in what truck. Waiting to hear what yours sounds like.

The hood reinforcing beams go right over the engine where there's little to no clearance.

    That's out. :(

Three other options as I see it.
    1. Put the inlet/back of the horn at either the back side of the engine bay in the corner and angle the horn either in between the brake master and washer reservoir or, 2. the other side and angle in between the alternator and battery. Brackets for these options will be *fun*.
    3. Sideways behind the front bumper, it'll be visible via the cutouts in my '96 diesel bumper. Brackets will be easier for this mount.

Sound is my main concern. Under the hood the entire core support assembly and the hood will block/muffle the horn. In the bumper it'll be out front but pointing sideways, blaring at the people next to me instead of the bunghole that just pulled out in front of me.

    ???

What about under the driver's floor board, behind the wheel well?
Seems to me that is an area that stays pretty clean.

On semis now they mount them under the cab and they are just as loud as they were.

I'd like to have one for the back of my truck, those crazy people flashing their brights at night.

I always thought the back of a Bronco/Shelled truck would be a good place for a 1919a4. Be a lot more discouraging to tailgaters than a horn ;)

Yep, must have. I mean look at our rigs......... something that size demands a horn of that magnitude!

    Right there with ya.

But this is THE horn, incredibly loud and obnoxious. That's why I'm fretting over where to put it, for maximum impact!!

*When* you make it down here, you'll hear for yourself.

    $320 everything needed and delivered from www.airhornsoftexas.com. It's Grover's 1510 emergency horn.

How about an automatic 12v drain valve for the air tank?

I'd like the tank to vent for 5 or 10 seconds *at least* once a week if not once a day..............

    ???

    How does this one work?

DV-2 Style Reservoir Drain Valve, #034043

    Here's a simple cheap option...

    Drain Pull Valve w/ 5' Cable, #032082

VelvacŪ drain pull valve has an attached 5' vinyl coated aircraft cable.
    Specifications

    1/4" MPT
    .075 diameter cable
    120 pmi maximum pressure

    Yay!

I think the underside of the hood will work!

The dang horn, like Trent said, is about as long as the engine bay is deep.

It *should* go, when the hood's closed, with the back of the horn in between the brake booster and oil bypass return line, then forward towards the space in between the radiator and #2 battery.

The back of the horn will mount to the back hood elevated/reinforcement bar, and the front of the horn should anchor right where the engine bay/hood light attaches. I'll remount the light to the side or bottom of the freshly installed horn.

Now it's time to crawl under the Classic's belly and find a place to correctly, vertically mount the 13" tall compressor assembly. It's needs to be that way so I can properly vent/drain moisture.

Adding a air hose adapter is an option too.

Here is the Firetruck "1510 Kit"

    Consists of:
    • 1510 Brass Air Horn Assembly With Premium Chrome Finish
    • 1218 Compressor with Tank
    • 12 Volt air solenoid
    • Horn Button
    • Fittings & Poly Tubing
    $299.00

I have a air horn on my 78 bronco Its so load the first time i hit it i almost went of the road lol. As to where i put my horn. It's in between the fender and inner fender, you can hide small kids in there.Mine uses a vacuum pump diaphragm thingy that fills a 1 gal tank.

But i see ppl put them in between the frame rails to.

you know you can unmount the compressor from the tank thus mounting them seperately would make it easier to find a home for them

I can not remember the last time I used my horn.....You can get shot for using those around here. and if you think I am joking....I will have to link up the road rage stories. Utah isn't ranked nationally each year number one for worst drivers for a reason.
