Got a roof repair quote today, kinda

The other day I was driving around after a snow storm. Had quite a bit of snow sitting on the roof. Well it started to melt, and was dripping inside. I figure I should fix the roof this summer.

So, I went to the local sandblasting/powdercoating/bed liner place. Just wanted to get a quick quote. I plan on doing all of the metal work and filler myself. Just to spray the roof where the vinyl is will be 600, give or take. Another 500 to do the fiberglass top. I also asked about doing the bottom six inches of the truck. That would be 1200.

Now I'm considering having them just do the roof, and I'll paint the rest when I paint the truck. But I'm also considering getting an undercoating gun and spraying what I want myself.

The only issue I'm having is that I have never sprayed the bed liner before. I have painted a few cars, and dont have an issue with that. Has anyone sprayed this stuff with good results? Any product you would recommend? I'd like to use something that is tintable. Thanks!

It is really easy to shoot.

It doesn't spray like paint.

They use a special gun for it that kind of spits the stuff on there. Wait maybe it does spray like paint. LOL

Depending on the kit you get, you mix the products (usually two part) into a container and pour it into the spray gun cup.
Then just shoot it.
The thickness and texture is completely controlled by the guy running the gun. If you want a smoother finish, thin it with some paint thinner. It will take longer to dry.

If you want the rough texture, then just stand back and gob it on.

you can also tint the material to any color you want.

Seems like it could be a good idea. Probably would last longer than paint, and with the texture you could use less bondo. Also the sound deadening, ect.

Check into Al's liner, its prolly the best DIY kit on the market

I've used kits from southern polyurethanes before and they worked very well for truck beds but not on roofs.
