This is a post install write up, so I don't have pictures of every step. If needed I can get more or better ones.
I robbed the MSD unit out of my 86 E-150. Both motors are TFI, so parts I used were interchagable.
Parts used, all by MSD:
6AL ignition box. Part # PN6420
Blaster TFI coil, part# PN8227
Ford TFI harness, part# PN8874
Install is pretty straight foward, if you use the Msd harness. The hardest part is finding a spot to mount the 6AL box.
Find a spot for the box ( mine is mounted to the tray under the stock air filter box, it fits perfectly under the K&N air charger kit I installed).
Wiring is pretty simple, 1 ground and 1 constant +, 4 get plugged into the harness, and I think 2 for use with a crank trigger ( not used in my setup). There is also a plugin for aftermarket tach and 1 for RPM modules.
The 4 wires that get plugged into the harness are color coded and have spade terminals that match those in the TFI harness.
Once you get the box wired, the coil needs to be swapped( or OEM can be reused). The part and brackets behind the coil had to be removed on my truck. Word of CAUTION: when working with or around hard plastic vaccum(sp?) lines be extra careful, especially when cold outside. I shattered two of those lines. Had to repair with window washer hose.
After coil is done. Connect the OEM plug that came off the coil, into the MSD harness. The other plug in the harness goes to the coil, they can't be mixed up.
Should take less than an hour for install of all parts, less if you aren't swapping coils.
